THE WORLD TOILET COLLEGE – SINGAPORE

WTO started the World Toilet College (WTC) in 2005 as a social enterprise in Singapore. To address the gap in education and training around sanitation topics, World Toilet College (WTC) was started as a social enterprise in Singapore in 2005 by World Toilet Organization, Singapore. It has been designed as an independent world body to develop curriculum, courses, workshops and best practices and standards in toilet design, maintenance, and sanitation practises and technologies.

Through this, it aims to foster an enabling environment for government officials, WASH practitioners, nonprofit professionals, masons, professional toilet cleaners and end beneficiaries. to expand their knowledge and hence ensure the effective building and usage of toilets. It also serves as a platform to encourage knowledge sharing amongst different networks. WTC Singapore offered needs based customised trainings for the various segments in the sanitation domain.

Under WTC Singapore, WTO conducted a workshop for Lixil Sales, Marketing and IKam teams from India and Indochina.? The aim of the workshop was to equip teams from India and Indochina with the latest information on the public toilet industry in Asia. The topics covered ranged from an overview of public conveniences in Asia, Ergonomics and Behavior in Commercial Toilets, Guidelines for Public Toilets & Provision and Stakeholders Needs Analysis and Pain Points, etc. Each session was followed by a question and answer session. On day 2, based on day one discussions, participants presented a product gap analysis and strategy for their region.

Conducted 1.5-day training for the students of the Institute of Technology Adhi Tama Surabaya, Indonesia. The students are pursuing Masters of Technology in Environmental Engineering. The training was on the Green Technology and Integrated Waste Management, as a part of the training participants learned the best practices from Singapore model on waste and water management, as a part of the exposure visit participants visited PUB NEW Water Plant and Marina Barrage.

World Toilet College has uniquely designed trainings to facilitate effective execution of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and motivate government representatives to learn and deliver a holistic program that aims at using waste as resources, promoting recycling and resource recovery. We appreciate Karnataka government who took the initiative to send their representatives to Singapore to learn best practices from Singapore model and replicate the same in Karnataka.
